The object of the project:
Production of a multimedia CD-ROM presenting the life and work of Melina Mercouri, a charismatic person that became a myth in Greece and abroad on both the artistic and the political scene. The CD-ROM integrates a large database of information on her life and activities. A three-dimensional cube object has been used as the main interface and navigation paradigm. Each side of the cube presents a different aspect of Melina Mercouri's life.
Popular multimedia authoring tools and technologies such as Macromedia Director and Apple QuickTime have been employed in the CD-ROM's implementation.
The HPCLab role and involvement in the project:
HPCLab was responsible for the coordination of the production team, which included graphic designers and staff from the Melina Mercouri Foundation.
HPCLab has also implemented the CD-ROM.
Funding:
The project is funded by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and was co-produced by the Melina Mercouri Foundation. It is distributed by Kastaniotis Editions.

The results of the project:
The Melina Mercouri CD-ROM received the first award at the Second Greek Moebius Multimedia Awards. It has also won the first award in the Culture category.
The Melina Mercouri CD-ROM was also one of the 25 nominees, at the final stage of the Europrix 2000 MultiMedia Art award, which is supported by the European Commission. The CD-ROM advanced to the finals after successful competition with about 500 products and applications that were submitted from producers in 30 countries.
